The Star Gets Flipped

The Star Gets Flipped

By Lorne Swarthout

Yesterday we flipped the Hudson Star over on its gunwales so we could begin varnishing the bottom. It was exciting to lift our new boat up out of its cradles and spin it around in the air. Not so heavy! The interior finishing is now 90% done and we will have the smooth surface and graceful lines of the hull in front of us for another 10 days or so.

We also continued finishing the seats, floorboards and foot braces. Elys fashioned a yoke for the new rudder from white oak. The end of construction and the beginning of sea trials is near.

It was also a notable day in the boathouse because we opened the plastic curtain used to keep the warm air in and the cold air out all winter. Yesterday it was finally warmer outside than inside.
